Welcome to Messy Nessie Early Learning and Child Care.

My name is Claire Byard, and I’m a proud mother of four and grandmother of three. With years of experience as a UHI Lecturer in Further Education and a former Registered Childminder, I’ve dedicated my career to nurturing and educating children. I’ve also worked with Highland Council as an Assistant Policy Officer in Equalities, shaping policies that promote fairness and inclusion.

At Messy Nessie ELC, I’m passionate about offering a childminding service that’s as unique as the children I care for. Inspired by the principles of Froebel and Mindfulness, I’ve created a space where play, self-regulation, and socialisation are at the heart of everything we do. My decade-long experience facilitating Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses has shown me the profound impact of mindfulness on well-being, which I integrate into my approach to child care.

I believe every child deserves to be seen, heard, and accepted just as they are. At Messy Nessie, children learn that it’s okay to feel their emotions, however big or small. They’ll find a safe, gender-neutral space where kindness and acceptance are the norms, and where they can express themselves freely without fear of judgement.
